I love this product: it creates perfect cantaloupe slices that you can stick in the fridge and grab whenever.Here is some additional/clarifying information:1) It's big. The cutting area (metal blades) are a FULL 8" in diameter. (The whole unit is 8.5" in diameter.)2) The blades are very sharp. Happily, a protective plastic cover (that snaps on easily to the bottom) is provided.3) The manufacturer's website recommends that this product be hand washed.4) It is a bit awkward to clean, but no big deal.5) You do have to clean the Cantaloupe seeds etc off of the individual blades - kind of one by one -- after slicing.The description states that it will cut a watermelon, which was the reason why I ordered it. I shoud have paid more attention to the size because when I got it, I realized that it would not possibly be able to fit around a medium sized watermelon. I used it to make the initial cuts in the watermelon and cut the rest of it with a knife. It helped with cutting up a watermelon but it did not fully work as expected.Only have used this slicer on large apples and it works great for that. The slices can just fall out of it due to the large size so you dont have to pull them through like on a regular slicer. Would probably be difficult to use on melonsLove it! If you don't have one in your kitchen you are missing out! Makes cutting up cantaloupe for example so easy and no mess! I usually cut off both ends so the fruit sits flat. Then place in a disposable plastic grocery bag and dice it with the slicer. All the inside goop is caught up in the bag and you can easily dispose of it.This item did not perform as completely as stated. Although it did an excellent job on a pineapple it failed completely in using on a watermelon. It could not cut the melon even though two husky, 200 lb young men tried. So unless your are superman I do not recommend this for the average user.Good idea, but just don't use it enough. Bought this in the summer when we were eating a lot of melon, but ended up only using it a handful of times. If you can use a knife without hurting yourself, and have sharp knives, really don't need this product.A good tool for the kitchen. I love cantalope but often don't buy it because I don't want the deal with the mess of cutting the rhine. This slicer works wonderfully. Just push on it and you have slices ready to eat.I work in a small school kitchen and I figured it would help when we are cutting cantaloupe and honeydew in smiles for the kids and it won't even cut through the skin. I tried slicing off the outside skin on the end when I was going to cut it and it still didn't work... I would have to peel the two melons before it would cut through them... what would be the point in that. It shows it cutting through watermelon... HA what a joke! it didn't even make a dent in the skin.I meant to return it but school let out and I was off for the summer... now I am back and it is sitting in the box with the original bag in my office.... just a sore reminder of a poor choice of spending my money.I would not recommend this item to my worst enemy.
