This is not the best book I've read but one which I will remember, not just for its catchy title but also for the very real character who breathed life into it. Yellow is a young girl who leaves her crude-oil ravaged village and moves to the city in order to earn money and prepare to go on to university. She falls in with a rich set, and later dates a much older man. This book chronicles her journey from being fresh, innocent and naive to a woman experienced in the ways of the world and disillusioned. I like how the author weaves in the social environment and politics of the time into the story. I did notice though that the reason for the title of the story and the name of the main character, which is the way people regard bi-racial children in the south of Nigeria, is not fully explored.
